I just meant that the believer would find the answer of Jesus stating the words and the writers more or less drawing from that as more acceptable than scholars would.sorry I should have been more specific with my thought and was referencing there. Or if it was colloquial or some other well known theology of that day but sounds like there may not actually be any external evidence speaking on it.ĭidn't mean the answer was faith based. Like do they believe the writer of Matthew copied off of Paul then John copied off of Matthew or both perhaps. So I am just trying to gauge if scholars have pieced that one together at all or had some way about piecing Matthew and Paul together.

For example let's say it was Paul who wrote 1 Thessalonians and it has an earlier dating according to scholars then would not Matthew be seen as borrowing from Paul since it is generally believed that things are borrowed because they have similar aspects or stories so they have to have been or more likely a copy and retelling of sorts ? Like people state with Luke on mark or even the q. I am thinking if one was to approach this with a more doubtful and condemning sense. I can see for the believer that makes sense. Our sister sub demands strict academic standards for all comments, but /r/AskBibleScholars is a forum where professional scholars can be asked for their personal opinion, advice, and recommendations about any aspect of their work or the field of Biblical scholarship in general.

Intended as a companion to /r/AcademicBiblical, this sub allows professional scholars a forum to discuss their field in a more informal setting.
